3 Tips for Golfing in the Winter

Golf is a great game that can be hard to say goodbye to for the winter months. Now that the snow has fallen we want you to stay in tip top shape! For those of you that have the drive and motivation to play through the cold weather conditions, check out these tips to keep your score low when playing in the cold.

Tip 1- Driving

Driving in the winter can be harder because the ground is softer creating less roll on your drive. Try a driver with a higher loft when playing in the winter. The typical 9.5 degree loft is great for summer conditions but not for winter. Switch that driver out of your bag with a 12 degree loft or just start driving with your 3-wood.

Tip 2- Iron Play

The first tip about iron play in the winter is to lean a little bit more to your left when you swing. This will give you a steeper attack on the ball and increase your chance of contacting the ball first. Lastly, lots of courses make you play from fairway mats during the winter. Therefore, the strategy is to grip slightly lower on the club because the ball is higher on the ground due to the mat.

Tip 3- Putting

Do not adjust your putting stroke from the summer to the winter because this will have a detrimental effect on your game when summer comes back around. Buy a heavier putter. With the slower greens using a heavier putter will make it easier to get the ball to the hole on the longer putts.

Overall, take these three tips into consideration when golfing this winter and your score should have minimal damages from the harsh conditions of winter.
